This music has been created using rare, obsolete software applications and plugins running on vintage Macintosh computers. Suren Seneviratne’s Missing Music project explores the overlooked history of computer music by bringing back to life the software synthesisers and VST plugins used between the 1990s and 2010s—tools that shaped much of the electronic music of that era and still echo in today’s production.
A Sri Lankan sound artist based in London and Kent, Seneviratne first developed Missing Music as an online archive of more than 300 entries documenting old Mac-based music tools. The project has since grown into a live audio-visual performance using Apple iBook and PowerBook machines from the Y2K era, restoring these forgotten digital instruments to their original, working form.
